Beloit audiences will have a chance to get their hair done, get dressed up and sing along with John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Queen Latifah, Christopher Walkin and scores of other stars during this year’s sing along feature is Hairspray. The 2007 award winning musical about life in the ‘60s.

Half the show will be the audience itself, dressed as their favorite characters and competing on stage for prizes. Free popcorn and soda will be provided by Shubert Theatres.

The evening begins with a live show in which your host will lead you through a vocal warm-up, judge the uproarious costume contest and award the prizes. The film will be presented with the words to the more than two dozen songs flashed on the screen to allow broad audience participation. Dancing in the aisles will be encouraged.

Costumes are not mandatory but they are highly recommended and you will be amazed at the creativity on display.

The host will then show you how to use your free prop bag throughout the film and suggest some appropriate heckles and accompanying actions.

The Rules

The audience takes over as the star of the show from this point and almost anything can happen. The first rule of Sing-a-long-a is… THERE ARE NO RULES!

The award winning comedy musical tells the story of Tracy Turnblad, an overweight teenager with all the right moves, who is obsessed with the Corny Collins Show. Every day after school, she and her best friend Penny run home to watch the show and drool over the hot Link Larkin, much to Tracy’s mother’s dismay. When auditions are held for the show Tracy goes for it and makes it…and then the excitement really starts, all without denting her ‘do!

Adam Shankman
Director/ Writer

an American film director, producer, dancer, actor, and choreographer. He has been a judge on the television program So You Think You Can Dance since Season 3. He began his professional career in musical theater, and was a dancer in music videos for Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson.

Shankman has choreographed numerous films as well as one of the Spice Girls’ tours. He has directed several feature-length films, including A Walk to Remember, Bringing Down the House, and the 2007 remake of Hairspray.
