Backgammon

Synopsis

Mid-thirties Erik, is very much a loner. His everyday life consists of hustling strangers in a park. He is a backgammon player, and that is how he pays mostly for all the alcohol, he consumes on a daily basis.

He has a meeting with a lawyer who informs him that he hasn’t paid rent for the last six months, and he needs to figure something out.

He is confronted by a little girl Maya in the park, who wants to play with him. She goes to the school located across from the park.

She wants to learn the game, and he agrees to teach her.Slowly but surely they become friends, and they play every day, during her lunch breaks.

The school however alert her parents, that she is late everyday, and the mother Kristine, tries to figure out what is going on with her daughter. It turns out that Kristine actually knows

Erik, that they dated over a decade earlier. Erik is surprised by a visit by Kristine, who tells him she wants him to stay away from Maya. Mayas father, Thomas, is very upset, and tells Erik he will never breathe again if he doesn’t stay away from his daughter.

Erik is now forced to end his new friendship.
