Live Music Every Night of BIFF in Downtown Beloit

BIFF Pilsner Beer

The Beloit International Film Festival means more than just ten days of great independent film. It means nine nights of live music in Downtown Beloit. It means it is Party Season.

BIFF After Dark—the B.A.D. celebration of musical talent is something for everyone with nightly drink specials, no cover charges and BIFF PILS!

Friday, Feb 22nd. 7pm

Tony Scodwell
Highland Community College Big Band

Kicking off this year’s festivities will be Beloit native and one of the world’s leading jazz trumpet virtuosos, Tony Scodwell. This year he will get things rolling with a two-hour set on opening night Feb. 22 at Suds O’Hanahan’s Irish Pub, 435 E Grand Ave in Beloit, starting at 7 p.m. He will be backed up by the celebrated Highland Community College Big Band from Freeport, Ill. Special Guests will include another Beloit trumpet virtuoso, John Meyers, as well as BIFF Artistic Director Greg Gerard and the Beloit College Jazz Band.

Scodwell, a formidable veteran of the Big Band music scene, returns to Beloit to recreate some of the great standards. Creator of fine trumpets used worldwide, he has played with legendary stars crossing five decades, from Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Tony Bennett, to Elvis Presley, Diana Ross and Barbara Streisand.

Foodies of Beloit, rejoice! Now you can devour the opportunity to merge your equal loves within one space: movie magic and mouth-watering morsels.

For the first time ever, BIFF proudly introduces the “Food and a Flick” event – What better way to enjoy the opening of BIFF than to pair food with two feature films that are about the joys and tribulations of creating and discovering great food?

On the first night of the festival, Jan. 14 at 5 p.m., filmgoers can go to Bushel & Peck’s Friday Fish Fry to eat the esteemed fare of farm-to-table dinner while also savoring the funny, fishy tales of an intense cooking contest in the film “The Golden Scallop.”

If you are not a fish fancier, perhaps buffalo chicken wings can whet your appetite. Two screenings of “The Great Chicken Wing Hunt,” plates heaped with wings at Domenico’s or Bagels & More may tempt you instead.

These finger lickin’ wings will fly into your mouth as you follow the obsessive musings of a New York man, originally from Eastern Europe, who dedicates his life to find the world’s best buffalo chicken wings.
