Beloit Film Festival Reel Deal 2017

Friends at Beloit LibraryIf you think you know when to hold ‘em and when to fold ‘em, then you want to mark Saturday, Oct.14, on your calendar. That is the date you want to be in the legendary “back room” of the Beloit Public Library for the second annual Reel Deal, where you can bet on some guaranteed winners–the Beloit International Film Festival and the Beloit Public Library.

Max Maiken, BIFF Executive Director says “People are still talking about last year’s debut of the Reel Deal casino night, the newest, established, permanent, floating gambling night in Beloit.”

With the right password, guests will be admitted to the luxurious Casino Room of the Library where there will be live music for dancing and gambling with special prizes, hors d’oeuvres, desserts and a cash bar and silent auction. As iconic films and book covers flash on the walls and Lady Luck wanders the floor, the evening will offer an opportunity to play favorite games of chance with BIFF and BPL Bucks. Prizes to top winners will be presented at the end of the evening.

And dancers will want to note that all evening, the lounge show will feature the great song stylings of Eddie B Jazz, led by celebrated local drummer Eddie Bogdanas. The special dance floor will be rocking, and prizes will be offered for outstanding achievement in “Dancing the Night Away.”

An Evening of Entertainment

“The Real Deal offers a chance to get dressed up and show off your moves on the dance floor, your cunning at craps or your readiness at roulette—all in support of two great Beloit institutions,” says Marty Densch, president of BIFF. “BIFF is excited to join forces with The BPL again for what will be a unique evening packed with entertainment and surprises, whether you like to gamble, dance or just mix it up with friends.”

Beloit Public Library Director Nick Dimassis adds that Beloiters “will gain a new view of their library. From the moment you enter, volunteer dealers and croupiers will be ready to give you an even chance at breaking the bank.”

The fun starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $50 per person which includes your first fistful of BIFF/BPL Bucks.
Tickets are on sale now.

Bushel & Pecks Fish Fry

Food and a Flick

Bushel & Pecks Fish FryFoodies of Beloit, rejoice! Now you can devour the opportunity to merge your equal loves within one space: movie magic and mouth-watering morsels.

For the first time ever, BIFF proudly introduces the “Food and a Flick” event – What better way to enjoy the opening of BIFF than to pair food with two feature films that are about the joys and tribulations of creating and discovering great food?

On the first night of the festival, Jan. 14 at 5 p.m., filmgoers can go to Bushel & Peck’s Friday Fish Fry to eat the esteemed fare of farm-to-table dinner while also savoring the funny, fishy tales of an intense cooking contest in the film “The Golden Scallop.

If you are not a fish fancier, perhaps buffalo chicken wings can whet your appetite. Two screenings of “The Great Chicken Wing Hunt,” plates heaped with wings at Domenico’s or Bagels & More may tempt you instead.

These finger lickin’ wings will fly into your mouth as you follow the obsessive musings of a New York man, originally from Eastern Europe, who dedicates his life to find the world’s best buffalo chicken wings.
