Silent Film Showcase 2012 | The Kid Brother

Beloit Janesville Symphony | Silent Film Showcase

The Kid Brother

The Kid Brother | Harold LloydIn the 1927 Harold Lloyd film The Kid Brother, sheriff Jim has two tough manly sons, Leo and Olin, and a timid third son, Harold (Lloyd). He doesn’t have the muscles to match up to his borhters, so he has to use his wits to win the respect of his strong father and also the love of beautiful Mary.

The Kid Brother was successful and popular upon release and today is considered by critics and fans to be one of Lloyd’s best films, integrating elements of comedy, romance, drama, and character development.

This film is presented with the original score of Carl Davis performed live by the Beloit Janesville Symphony with Music Director Robert Tomaro. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity too experience the film with live orchestra!

Why is The Kid Brother so entertaining and accessible? First of all, there’s Lloyd himself as Harold Hickory, a classic Lloyd “Glasses Character” hero. Unlike Chaplin’s Little Tramp, who was as much defined by his bizarre eccentricities as his bowler and cane, Lloyd’s Glasses Character, with his trademark spectacles, was an instantly likable, sympathetic boy-next-door type, a figure as winsome and approachable as Jimmy Stewart or Tom Hanks. The Beloit Janesville Symphony

This signature BIFF event features the Beloit Janesville Symphony.

Since its inception, the most popular single element of The Beloit International Film Festival has been the Saturday evening M&I Bank and M&I Wealth Management Silent Film Showcase.

Sold-out audiences have frequently included film festival executives from around the country on- hand to see how BIFF creates the program so they might duplicate it at their festivals. This annual celebration of early 20th century film is highlighted by a performance of an original or newly conceived musical score performed by the Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra with music director Robert Tomaro.
