While It Lasts
Category: Documentary, Biography Country: U.S. Language: English Rating: PG Runtime: 11 min. Director: Marc Kornblatt Producer: Marc Kornblatt Website
Synopsis:
At 81, Jamie Ross, a retired art professor, lives in a small, Wisconsin town in a ramshackle studio crammed with his own work and thousands of objects he has collected over the decades. A patina of dust, covering most surfaces, adds to the studio’s eccentric character. Jamie’s current passion is rescuing intriguingly shaped tree limbs from his wood pile — his studio has no central heating — and turning them into finely polished shapes adorned with unusual words, such as ‘seemlessness’ and ‘starboard,’ that strike his fancy.
One rain-soaked afternoon, as water drips from the ceiling and creates puddles around the studio, Jamie shares his thoughts on beauty, creativity and his own mortality. His self-deprecating, heart-felt comments, blended with an original score, and a visual record of his collection, offer a glimpse into the mind and spirit of a dedicated artist as an old man.
