BIFF 2022 BIFFy Award Winners - Cropped

Another BIFF in the Books: The Box Office is Closed

Beloit was abustle and the weather once again cooperated as thousands of visitors attended more than 125 screenings in a dozen venues over ten days.

“In some ways we were almost starting over after a one year hiatus from in-person activities. But the essential elements of the Beloit International Film Festival were there…and healthy,” says Executive Director Greg Gerard. “BIFF2022 saw a impressive number of filmmakers in attendance, many of whom were returning to a festival they love, and a setting they enjoy, sharing ideas and observations with other artists.”

More than 150 filmmakers visited Beloit during BIFF, with many of them staying for several days.

“Once again the people of Beloit impressed our visitors, with volunteers returning in large numbers and audiences providing the kind of questions and discussion that these world-class artists relish,” said Ana Kelly, BIFF president. “The social events, the workshops and the BIFF After Dark locations saw great participation and exchanges between visitors and area film lovers of all ages.”

The big hit of BIFF2022 was The Six, which had the director and Janesville’s Tom Fong, who was featured in the film, in attendance at the showings. Originally there were two screenings scheduled of the documentary about the lives of six Chinese survivors of the Titanic. “By the time we were through, we had five sold-out showings and we were still turning away audiences. Every year we hope for one of these blockbusters to support the whole festival,” says Gerard.

The Beloit International Film Festival this year marks its 17th season as the region’s major international cultural event. BIFF is generously sponsored by the Hendricks Family Foundation and Visit Beloit in association with Beloit College. Support for the Festival comes from area businesses and civic organizations, and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. Critical individual support for BIFF is provided through gifts and membership in the BIFF Film Society of Beloit.
