Ian Alexy & The Deserters

Ian Alexy is a Philadelphia born, Minneapolis based singer, songwriter and member of the nationally acclaimed Americana duo Hobo Nephews Of Uncle Frank. His salt of the earth songwriting and expressive guitar work, according to Minneapolis Star Tribune, “invoke eighties era Springsteen and Petty.” Ian Alexy is currently performing as a solo artist and with his backing band in support of his new record “Deserters.”

Trapper Scheop & The Shades

Trapper Schoepp is a young man who’s befriended a strange and diverse cast of characters during his 27 years. That small army of rogues and rebels, drifters and dreamers, soldiers and schemers populate his songs, their tragedies and comedies, their lives and deaths recalled in his finely etched musical vignettes.

The Minnesota-born, Wisconsin-based tunesmith and teller of tales (both tall and true), returned with his second effort Rangers & Valentines (Xtra Mile Recordings). The record follows his critically acclaimed 2012 debut Run Engine, Run, with his band the Shades. That LP earned notices in Rolling Stone, American Songwriter and Paste, with the folks at Huffington Post calling him a “master storyteller” and PBS hailing his “story songs that explore and explode the conventions of rock and roll.”

Last summer Schoepp also released Bay Beach Amusement Park, a six-song concept album centered around the 125-year-old attraction located in Green Bay, WI on the shores of Lake Michigan. Produced by 18-year-old Minnesotan Eliot Skinner and recorded mostly live over a weekend at Pachyderm Studios, Bay Beach Amusement Park serves as Schoepp’s creative and wildly fun follow-up to Rangers & Valentines, an album Relix declared a “mini masterpiece” and named one of Billboard’s “Best of the Week.”

2018 will see a new release by Schoepp produced by Pat Sansone (Wilco, Autumn Defense).

The BIFF Summer Blockbuster

It’s back for another season!!
Last year’s Summer Blockbuster was a hit!!

So the BIFF staff is gearing up for a second annual event which promises to be bigger, better and “BIFFer” than the inaugural installment, with some exciting changes to the agenda, which will certainly make it one of the more unique must-see opportunities happening in downtown Beloit this summer!

The event is moving from last year’s 3rd Street location to one that will provide so much more in the way of convenience, profile and aesthetic value. Hendricks Commercial Properties executive, Rob Gerbitz, has given BIFF the go-ahead to use a prime space on the west bank of the Rock River, smack dab in the middle of the ever-growing Ironworks Campus, directly across the river from the Ironworks Hotel (just a short walk across the new pedestrian footbridge) with a backdrop of industrial art and the enchanting lights of the Irontek Drive Spine!

While the music plays, there will be dancing, drinking and eating for all! This year’s food will be provided by Vince’s, who will be featuring their well-known hot dog truck, accompanied by their potato tent. Gourmet dogs and taters all evening long. And right next to Vince’s you will find the beverage concession, provided by Tom Hankins and his staff from Suds O’Hanahan’s in Beloit, featuring a variety of beers and wine coolers for thirsty guests.

As soon as the sun sets, BIFF will be projecting a wide array of images on its massive inflatable movie screen, including updates on coming attractions, Facebook live transmissions, film clips and psychedelic color bursts, adding a visual spectacle that will light up the riverside!

A veritable feast for the eyes, ears and tummy!! Admission is only $5 (free to kids 12 and younger). Show ends at 11pm. Don’t miss your chance to be part of a growing annual event that brings a whole new vibe to downtown Beloit! Join BIFF for the 2018 Summer Blockbuster!!
