Neither Alex nor Flores could say goodbye to their loved ones. They both had words left to say. “Before Birth” is a farewell letter that tries to give closure to these duels, proposing an encounter in a remote place. This experimental documentary narrates a common journey into the territory of memory and incomplete love.
Director Statement
Three Hours Per Frame: Creating Of Wood was my pandemic project. I often wore a mask during our shoots. I feel honored to have been able to record the creation of OF Wood, a much celebrated stop-cut animation. Owen was a lot of fun to work with and I’m sure everyone will love meeting him in this film.

Álex Mena is a photographer and designer with a multitude of individual and collective exhibitions to her credit, she has been an assistant to the photographer and activist Angelica Dass, manager and coordinator of fairs and exhibitions at the Elvira González gallery, among other activities related to the world of art. She currently combines her work as a UX/UI designer with the development of her last two projects: Hieratic White and Before Birth. Carmen Jiménez is a screenwriter and director who has developed shows for Suma Content, Netflix, and Legendary among others, and is currently working on a British/Spanish series with producer Tanya Seghatchian (Harry Potter, The Crown). She is the writer of the Sony International feature Adiós (2019), directed by Paco Cabezas (Penny Dreadful, Into the Badlands) and the US/Portugal TV show Vanda. Carmen has directed several short films with successful international festival runs, and was awarded by the DGA amongst others.
