Cold Nights Hot Salsa takes you inside the international dance world of Victor and Katia, aspiring young salsa dancers from Montreal, Canada, who seek to win a World Salsa Championship in Florida. This is a love story. It’s the story of Victor and Katia’s love to dance and of how being lovers enhances and also complicates their grand dance ambitions. It’s the story of two dancer’s dream to conquer the international Latin dance world.
Edwin Gailits
Director, Producer, Writer
Edwin took his eye for arresting images from his background as a fine art still photographer, and combined it with his ability to work collaboratively to tell stories, from directing for the stage, and began making films in the mid 1990s. Some of his films include an award winning documentary, ‘Wind Driven Rain’, on the work of a world-renouned Shibori fabric artist; ‘Eyes On The Earth’, a documentary which examines the relationship between watercolour painting, satellite data imagery, and mathematics. These were followed by directing a healthcare documentary, ‘Windows On Healthcare’, that looks at some of the underlying systemic failings of the U.S. healthcare system. ‘Cold Nights Hot Salsa’ is his first foray into the challenges of making a personal full length documentary without the benefits of broadcaster or other sources of public/private financing.
