On Account of a Hedgehog

Directed by Marc Kornblatt

Narrative Short
USA | 11 min | 2016

As they look ahead to their wedding day, a young couple has trouble piecing together the details of how they met and fell in love in this short mockumentary.

Samantha and Kyle, the featured couple, are still happily married, and that’s probably thanks to Gemma (their dog).

On Account of a Hedgehog - Marc KornblattMarc Kornblatt
Director, Writer

Born in Edison, NJ, Marc Kornblatt started out as an actor in New York after college (Brandeis Univ.), turned to playwriting, earned an MA in journalism (NYU), wrote for magazines and newspapers, published children’s books, married, became a father and then returned to college in his mid 40’s to earn an education degree. Teaching at an elementary school with a large underprivileged population, he began making music videos with students. That led to short narratives, documentaries and the founding of Refuge Films.

He has since produced more than 100 short films and four feature-length documentaries — Street Pulse, What I Did In Fifth Grade, In Search of America and the award-winning Dostoevsky Behind Bars.

Marc has lived in Wisconsin for 30 years, taught elementary school in Madison (where one of the lead actors, Kyle, was his student teacher) before retiring from the classroom to work full-time as a filmmaker. Over the years, Marc has had three full-length documentaries and three or four shorts screened by BIFF.
