Rosso
Directed by Zach Staads
Narrative Short
USA | 5 min | 2021
4 AM on the lake is beautiful, eerie, and there always seems to be something lurking under the murky surface.
For an anxious person, being trapped on a boat with someone you don’t like can be the tense. Stuck for hours afloat, nothing on the line, bad conversation, and cold winds as resentment rises. Both people chained to a rod and tackle because one won’t speak up and admit that they want to go home.
Director Statement
Rosso began as a long held feeling of the strange passive aggressive fishing trips I had over my formative years, and first became a short two person theatrical scene entitled ‘Bait’ for Artober 2019. When I was up late one night, not long after the pandemic hit, I saw a frame of Porco Rosso that, for whatever reason, inspired me to write this different interpretation of those fishing trips. Now let’s all take a strange, early morning fishing trip together in Rosso.
