Documentary Feature
United States | 90 min | 2024

“Through a Storm – The Untold Stories of 9/11” unfolds as a poignant exploration into the collective memory and individual experiences surrounding the tragic events of September 11th, 2001. The Black Donnelly’s, renowned for their musical prowess and storytelling abilities, have seamlessly transitioned into the world of documentary filmmaking, creating a lasting impact with their previous work, “An Irish Story – This is My Home.”

The documentary’s strength lies in its ability to draw from a diverse range of voices, weaving together a narrative that encompasses the perspectives of firefighters and police officers who were on the front lines, A-list actors and popular musicians who felt the reverberations of the attacks, comedians providing a unique lens through humor, and individuals from various walks of life. This mosaic of personal testimonies creates a comprehensive and emotionally charged tapestry that captures the profound and far-reaching impact of the 9/11 atrocities.

The Black Donnelly’s, currently based on the iconic Las Vegas Strip, continue to break new ground as immigrant trailblazers. Their journey from Dublin to the heart of the American entertainment scene adds a unique layer to their storytelling, reflecting the universal nature of the 9/11 tragedy.

Co-directed and produced by the dynamic team of Dave Rooney and Dave Browne, alongside the exceptionally talented Jeff Olm from Wisconsin, “Through a Storm” emerges not just as a documentary but as a tribute to the resilience and bravery of those who faced the unimaginable on that fateful day. The filmmakers, through their artistry, aim to rekindle the memory of the fallen heroes, ensuring that their stories are not forgotten amidst the passage of time.

“Through a Storm” is not merely a historical account but a reflection on the enduring impact of 9/11 on individuals and society at large. By posing the question “Where were you?” the documentary invites viewers to engage in a collective moment of introspection, encouraging a deeper understanding of the shared humanity that binds us all. In a world that sometimes seems desensitized to historical events, this film stands as a beacon, striving to educate, inform, and foster empathy in the younger generation, ensuring that the lessons of 9/11 resonate for years to come.

SCREEN Magazine

“Tree of Life” is a whimsical short that gives nod to classic fables and fantasy stories. As the director, my focus was to maintain the integrity of the script and create a fun, magical world where Humans and Nymphs can co-exist. We utilized VFX to add a magical twist to the narrative, which enhanced the comedic elements of the film. We also worked closely with our talented cast to ensure that the dialogue flowed smoothly, allowing it to inform our camera movements and capture the essence and fun cadence of the story.

Ultimately, “Tree of Life” is a reminder that we all have a role to play in protecting our planet. By using humor and magic, we hope to inspire viewers to take action towards preserving our environment, while also providing them with a few laughs.
