Teacher/Filmmaker Marc Kornblatt followed his students around with a camera from September to June to record his final year teaching in a school of high poverty.

Born in Edison, NJ, Marc Kornblatt started out as an actor in New York after college (Brandeis Univ.). He turned to playwriting, earned an MA in journalism (NYU), and has since written for magazines and newspapers, published children’s books, produced plays, married, moved to Wisconsin and become a father. He returned to school in his 40’s to earn a teaching degree (Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison) and spent the next 15 years working in a public elementary school. Making music videos with students led to short narratives, documentaries and the founding of Refuge Films. WHAT I DID IN FIFTH GRADE is his third full-length documentary.
