Larry & Karen Arft | Honorary Co-hosts
They have welcomed guests to civic, cultural and fundraising events throughout the community for more than a decade, and The Beloit International Film Festival has asked them to do it one more time.
Beloit’s “First Couple,” Larry and Karen Arft, will serve as the official Co-Hosts for the Tenth Anniversary of BIFF, welcoming guests to events and introducing programs and visiting dignitaries. In particular they will be the hosts for the opening BIFF Tenth Anniversary Block Party on Feb. 20, one of the most spectacular downtown celebrations ever seen in Beloit and a fitting way to celebrate the city and BIFF.
City Manager for 11 years, Larry Arft will step down from his post this summer. Karen, has served as chair and inspired volunteer for organizations and causes that have helped identify Beloit as a community supportive of the arts and beauty and the welfare of its citizens. Both officially and unofficially their dedication to the creative life of this community has transformed Beloit into one of the most talked about and honored small cities in the region.
According to BIFF Executive Director Rod Beaudoin, “Beloit the city has shared a vision with Beloit the Film Festival that represents our mutual confidence and willingness to reach to new heights. It is best summed up in our response to every new challenge: “Why not?”
In the invitation to the Arfts, BIFF President Ron Nief said that “As you assume your new roles in “private life” we would like to recognize you and include you in a project that, without you, would not be celebrating ten years of success.”
