Eliza and her brother Damian live in Toronto with their mother. After she suffers an accident, they must travel to Montreal to join their father. The story is centered on Eliza, a young teenager. Having to take care of her brother and their wellbeing, this trip represents her first outing into the world as an independent woman filled with responsibilities.

Ursula Ellis is a writer/director and recent MFA graduate in screenwriting from Columbia University. A former Army brat with roots in Appalachia, she is committed to telling stories that explore underrepresented aspects of American life.

Her MFA thesis short, CRICK IN THE HOLLER, shot on location in her family home of West Virginia, received a 2016 Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Production Grant, as well as an IFP Audience Choice Award and Faculty Jury Honors at the 2017 Columbia University Film Festival. The film had its world festival premiere at the 2017 Woodstock Film Festival, before screening at the Citizen Jane Film Festival, Cucalorus Film Festival, and Lone Star Film Festival, where it was awarded best student short.

Her first feature film script, ANOMALIES, also set in West Virginia, placed in the 2015 Academy Nicholls Fellowship and is currently a nominee for the Humanitas Prize’s 2018 David and Lynn Angell College Comedy Fellowship.

Presently Ursula is in post-production on her proof-of-concept short film, FOR GEORGE ON HIS 30TH BIRTHDAY, starring esteemed stage and screen actors Michael Esper and Allie Gallerani, as well as developing various short, feature, and television projects.

Ryan Ward’s debut feature film, Son of the Sunshine, which he wrote and directed, was nominated by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television for a 2012 Genie Award for Best Original Screenplay. The film premiered as one of Indiewire’s “Top 5 Films to Watch” at Slamdance and screened at over 30 festivals, winning 13 awards. The movie was praised as “bleakly beautiful” by the CBC, “heart-wrenchingly authentic and powerful” by the Toronto Star, and “a gem of filmmaking genius” by the National Post.

In 2017, Ryan wrote and directed In the Beginning was Water and Sky, a short Native American fantasy drama that is distributed on PBS Indies, NativeFlix, and ShortsTV.

In 2017, Ryan also wrote and directed the short film, AmeriKa, which has screened at 22 festivals, winning Audience Awards at both Atlanta Underground and Riverside Film Festivals, as well as Best Film and Best Director at Atlanta Shortsfest. A feature version of AmeriKa is shortlisted for the 2018 Sundance Screenwriter’s Lab and has been invited to participant in the JETS Initiative at Berlinale 2018.
